From officers quarters to fairground rides....
Saturday 26th September saw H J Pugh and Co. at Bidford-on-Avon selling a collection of tractors, living vans, portable steam engine and associated accumulated sundries on the behalf Of Mr Mark Smith.

A good number of buyers were present on the day with a rare opportunity to purchase an early Ransomes, Sims & Jefferies portable engine, there had been a fair amount of interest on this engine with there being very little boiler information and not being steamed since 2005 the hammer finally fell at £2,200. A day wagon and fully restored Burton Box were also relatively good buys, selling for £1,000 and £2,500 respectively.

Also offered was a Porche 50 single cylinder diesel tractor with mid-mounted plough, which made £640. Two more were also offered, one for spares/repairs and one 52 with mid mounted plough which made £160 and £400 under the hammer. Other tractor prices included, a Massey Fergusson 35 made £1,050, a Fordson Major made £700 and an Alice Chalmers B with mid-mounted mower made £580.

Another very rare opportunity presented itself later on, a chance to buy a lot that had the potential to pay for its self countless times over. A set of children’s swing boats, this popular fairground attraction of times gone by made a respectable £320.

Two was ex-Army officers wagon and early Bedford 4 tonne dropsied cargo, complete with winch and full canvas. This duo went for £650 and £480 to the same buyer under Mr Pugh’s gavel.

With respect to lots included by the kind permission of Mr Smith, a David Brown 25D tractor made £2,150, a Hydraulic Post knocker fetched a respectable £470, a 4 furrow Ransome plough made £280.

A good day was had by all, with thanks to the caterers for providing some much needed bacon sandwiches and the team is looking forward to the forthcoming sale of the Peter Bourne collection on 10th October in Borth, mid west Wales and the annual collective sale at Keen Sawmills in Rock on Saturday 3rd October.
